Jaclyn Schelling

Birth Doula Intern

First, I want to say Congratulations on your pregnancy!   The miracle of a new baby is always something to cherish and admire!   I am a stay at home mom and along with my husband and children, we live on an acreage just north of Alton, IA.   We have 6 children (4 with us, 2 miscarriages).  My days are full of sticky hugs, kisses, mud pies and giggles!   I enjoy home schooling our children, gardening (especially my roses), reading and spending quality time with my family!

I have always had a passion for family life, for children, for babies.  I am looking forward to helping women (and her spouse/birthing partner) have an empowering birth experience that is right for you.    As both a doula and a breastfeeding counselor, I am also looking forward to helping you achieve the goals that you have set and want to meet for both you and your baby.

Kayla Van Wyhe, BSN, CCE

Birth and Postpartum Doula Intern

Kayla VanWyhe lives in Hull, IA with her husband Steven and their three children. Kayla graduated from Northwestern College in Orange City, IA in 2013 with her BSN degree. She worked as an RN at Mercy Medical Center in Clinton, IA as a labor and delivery/postpartum nurse. While there she also became a Certified Childbirth Educator and enjoyed teaching prenatal classes at the hospital. “When we moved back to Northwest Iowa I knew I wanted to get involved with the work going on at Guiding Star Orange City. I have always had a passion for pregnancy, childbirth, and for supporting new moms and their families. Having given birth to three children in the last four years, and with my experiences as a labor and delivery RN, I understand how the environment and the people surrounding a woman during birth can greatly impact her birth experience. I am so excited to be able to serve women and their families in the Siouxland area as a Birth and Postpartum Doula; to empower women during their labor and birth, and to also support them during their postpartum time as they transition with their new little blessing into their home.”

Tana Van Gorp

Birth Doula Intern

My name is Tana Van Gorp and I live just outside Orange City with my husband Corey, our son Jace, and our chocolate lab Dexter. I have been a radiologic technologist since 2011. I have a passion for working with and helping people. After having my son in 2017, becoming a birth doula weighed heavy on my heart. After thinking over it for a few months I knew this was a decision God was leading me and our family into. I’m looking forward to working with moms and dads during the miracle of birth. My hope is to provide families with the support and knowledge they need to have the best birth experience possible even if things don’t go as smooth as we would hope. Women are strong and capable of so much! Giving birth, no matter how it happens, showcases this strength in such a beautiful way. It is truly an honor to be a part of such a special occasion in a family’s life!
